I like to think about age and population a lot.

I was thinking about what our society would be like if we all knew that we'd be dead exactly on our 60th birthday -- just like in Brave New World. Imagine a new type of genetic engineering that inserts a timer gene that starts at 0 and ends at 60 years.

No need for social security, retirement planning and so on. Also, no need to save a lot or fret about having too little saved.

So far, this post would go in another category, but as I was having these thoughts this sentence appears in my mind:

Longevity is what kills ya.

This is the type of witticism that my mom would say that would go along with her other aphorisms on life most of which fall into the category of you can't win, so why bother. Of course, I also imagined Yogi Berra of It's deja vu all over again fame uttering my sentence.
