I don't "blog" or We(b)log.

I just log.

Isn't it time we realized we are in the Net age, on the electronic highway and we don't have to call it "e-" anything, anymore because its understood, and theres a whole lot of 12 year olds out there who know more from http than from books?

Ok, let's just call things their old normal names and not care if a book is written in electrons or India ink. It's a book. It's a log. It's a highway.

While I don't entirely agree with your statement:

I do see what you're saying: it's commerce, its publishing, it's providing
a service, it's mailing a note. We don't always need an "e-" in front
(I'm reminded of Loudon Wainright's song where he says he hates
the letter "e"), or an "i-", or "web-". I find your examples of logs and
highways a little jarring, though, because these seem to have been
derived almost whole cloth from the world of the internet. I don't think
we had "loggers" pre-internet (except those that cut down trees,
of course). We had diarists, columnists, essayists, etc. So, in the
internet age, by your argument, perhaps we go back to those terms.

The superhighway metaphor never made much sense to me. It sounds
like one of those homespun metaphors you use to describe things
to your elderly aunt, that doesn't help much, and is soon abandoned.

Sometimes the modality will make a difference, and there will be
reason to highlight it, but overall, I think you're right. If I say to you
that I told Joe about X, in the vast majority of cases, it won't matter
to you that I told him about it over the phone instead of in person.
There's no need to mention the phone. If I have evidence that he
received and read my email where I told him X, there's now generally
not much reason to mention how I told him.

log you in automatically. That way, when you post, it will show up
under your name. Cool
