I have an electric water heater. I knew it had 2 elements,
but I didn't know until recently that it also has 2 thermostats,
Each element has its own thermostat, and the 2 elements are
placed near the bottom and near the top of the tank, respectively.

Given that I can set the temperature of each independently, should I:
1) set them at the same temperature,
2) set the top element higher than the bottom, and if so, how much,
3) set the bottom element higher than the top, and if so, how much.

The safest, most conventional move is to set them to the same temperature.

I've got some theories I'm kicking around, but if you get the answer
before I do, feel free to post it.
