How do I teach my rescued bulldog not to ruffle thru the trashcan? We have just adopted a English bulldog and have a few behavioral problems. Most I can work out myself, but we can't leave him alone in the kitchen because he tips over the trashcan and makes a huge mess and he eats things he should not be eating.

The 2 answers that occur to me relate to either "hardening" your trashcan, or changing the way the dog responds to you.

For the latter, I've heard of dog training courses that highlight the idea that dogs really want you to be the "alpha dog". Then they know their place.

For the former, I'm imagining making the trashcan harder to tip over (by adding bricks at the bottom, say. Or, finding a bulldog-proof trashcan.

Following the thread, just ask yourself, "What, with it, would Churchill do?"

Good luck!
