Houses are too expensive. The recent "crises" in home prices shows that. The American economy is very vibrant and exciting in some ways, but in other features of life there are many economic bonds to servitude.

Among those are housing. Purchasing a house can take a lifetime, 30 years and now 50 years. That is not the way it should be. The cost of building a house has fallen as new building techniques and materials and efficiencies let us throw up tracts of housing in a matter of months. With the Internet we are able to spread jobs into cheaper and cheaper land areas.

To me, buying a house should entail no greater burden than buying a car. Basically, a five year commitment for a loan. In fact, putting up houses has become so efficient, that I can see a case for being able to buy a house in 5 years, and then tear that down and build up another.

While there is a lot of new housing stock in America, there is still a lot of old decrepit houses. People should not be paying 6 figures for such structures. The prices should reflect the efficiencies in building and that will allow builders to build and rebuild houses quickly, cheaply, like an assembly line can produce cars.
