This article from NOAA says that one of the long term trends is an increase in specific humidity..or the amount of water in the atmosphere.
At the same time they note a decrease in relative humidity. These could both be caused by heating, as more water vaporizes, but also the carrying capacity of the atmosphere to hold water as gas increases.
The short term result would be drought, as we've seen, because the atmosphere would be less likely to achieve saturation and rainfall. However, as the trends continue and if there reaches a point where the water vapor begins to fill that new capacity, the rains could become torrential!
Short term also, I might expect to see more water even in desert areas as dew..if not outright rainfall.
