A troper is someone who tries to gainsay an argument with a type of ad hominem attack based on labeling or categorizing a poster within a known group, preferably of a derogatory nature. A Super Troper will do this constantly, as his only argument.

Very common labels applied by the Super Troper are "troll". They are also known to throw in many sexual labels but mostly will comment on people's clothing, appearance, seeming at random, trying to link them to some famous personality, movie character, well known item.

On the Internet, the point is to through the thread "off the trail" especially if someone makes an argument not in keeping with the perceived group norm of the blog.

You Are Not A Trope

So what exactly is wrong with labeling? Labeling is simply efficient. It’s an easy way of categorizing stuff, to get on to the serious points you’re trying to make. In fact, it’s precisely this ease that makes it dangerous.

When you label something or someone, it becomes a way of dismissing arguments. When someone can be labelled a “Nice GuyTM” or a “RadFem” you can more easily ignore the subtleties of their arguments. It also becomes more easy to throw an ad hominem argument.
