Last night I stopped in a Texaco station because they were offering $3.25 a gallon gas if I bought a car wash (yes, I know, they still get the better of the deal...but my car was dirty).

Anyway, as you know gas station pumps are now small computers on the order of a DEC PDP.

After going through all the purchase menus, getting discounts menus, selecting car wash menus and then pumping the gas, the final words on the display was...COMPLETION SUCCESSFUL.

Wow. That's made me feel like I had just returned from an overflight in northern Libya.

COMPLETION SUCCESSSFUL

What does it mean? I complete something...even if I failed somewhere along the way...the "completion" can still be successful right?

And is that all Texaco cares about...that somehow I managed to display the aptitude it takes to master one of their gas pumps? Maybe next they can issue certificates.
