I have this bug up my nose about people who tell me to Google It.

For example, I was doing some answering in a blog called Questionland, where you put out questions and readers chime in with answers. It's focused around local things in Seattle, but otherwise similar to Yahoo! Answers and others.

Now, for a couple of my questions, some answerers would simply tell me to "Google It". A while back, maybe 2005-2006, that was a very good thing to do. The thought of simply searching for an answer was not in the mindset of people, so they needed a jolt. Saying "Google It" had that "ouch" feel of yes, why didn't I think of that!

In other words, it needed to be said.

But now, 2011, do we still need the reminder? I feel no. I feel that if I come to a site where I want not only general knowledge, but expert, one on one, firsthand experience, like a Q&A site about local restaurants, or how to rent a clown, or which is the best park, telling me to Google It is simply rude.

Am I touchy? Or are we beyond all that...
