I have often written that we are in the economic "Spring" of a Kondrieff long wave. My parallel is that 1932 = 2003...both the real nadirs for the stock markets.

The signing of the health care bill signals a re-federalization of the economy. As others have pointed out, the private sector has been de-leveraging. This has less to do with political ideology and more to do with technology. Profits are generated when a product provides a true advantage. Profits are minimized when a product becomes obsolete, defined the way McLuhan conveying no advantage. McLuhan said the wheel was obsolete because everyone had one and everyone knew how to build one. This could be the case for many of the 20th century technologies.

This is the point where Government steps in to clean up the mess and make these technologies part of the public infrastructure. No need to fear for's just the way of the world.

So, now according to my timeline, we're entering the 40s. Now let us remember that the programmable general purpose electronic computer was invented in the 1940s and so was the MASER. Television was being perfected and readied for the mass market. So, it's a difficult time to be a private it becomes almost an underground thing and the bureaucrats take over.
