In our Poker as a Metaphor section, there is a discussion called "Avoiding Irrationals",

Here we try to survive by avoiding the players who have nothing to lose in a game.

There is another concept that has intrigued me lately -- the concept of the Rider, or as this article about slime mold discusses, Freeloaders:

If you read it, I think it says it doesn't pay. I certainly hope so.

Freeloading interests me because I think our society has recently undergone an inversion perhaps best described by the Biblical first becoming last and last becoming first.

(See also, our discussion, Poor Get Richer, )

Because of the halting of easy high end money, brought on by an increase in the money supply, many of the top feeders, who were seen as bringing home the bacon to their business, corporation, bureaucracy, are now looking more and more like beached whales, or rather, overweight riders on a horse that is trying to survive for itself. I wonder if the top feeders, ala Madoff, are soon to find themselves bucked, and lying in the dirt.
