I have long debated all the reasons and rationale for the current energy "crises" and rise in price with friends, and the only thing we seem to agree on is: nothing makes least given all the information available.

Then, I had a novel thought. What if someone had figured out how to make one of these pie-in-the-sky energy from nothing schemes work? What if the businesses figured that in 10 years, we'd be getting all of our energy from tap water? Well, pretty much, they'd want to have a clearance sale to make as much money from oil as possible before, as they say, the well dried up.

Witness, new information that Cold Fusion, and it's cousin, Sonofusion, might be barking up the right tree:

The prospect of cold fusion was irresistible to the navy. Calculations showed that a cubic kilometre of ordinary lake or ocean water contained enough deuterium to rival the combustion energy in all the world's known oil reserves. Then there were claims that some credible attempts to replicate Pons and Fleischmann's work had indeed seen something strange.
