There's a new movement for Open Voting -- but it leaves something to be desired. The progenitors of this idea want us to use open source software for electronic voting -- so that bugs or rigs to the numbers would be visible.

To me this is the wrong approach. The only way to do it is to have Open Election. That is, our votes, as individuals, must be made the same way that the votes of our representatives are public. We need to do away with the secret ballot.

A person should have the right (in fact if it were up to me it would be a requirement of voting). When votes are cast, the persons name would be added to a database, with a web front end. They would be able to instantly see their vote and everyone else's. There would be a 7 day period after election day for a person to change his vote.

In this way, there can never be any charge of fraud. Parties would be able to conduct their own polls of voters from the database to insure they are valid voters and that their votes are correctly represented.

Every man a Senator, is my motto.
