Brian Hansen noted recently that it seems as if the forecasts for northwest weather (Seattle, Portland) are less and less accurate. I concur. In fact, I used to joke that a Seattle weatherman had the easiest job in the world since all he had to do was look at the satellite photo of the Pacific and he could see how far away the clouds were and then predict rain or not.

However, something may have changed with that pattern. Case in point, today ( 31 May 08 ) was predicted by many online sites to be a Sunny day. This morning many had changed their forecasts to Partly Sunny and then Partly Cloudy with sun breaks in the afternoon. It's almost 2pm PST and there is not sunshine yet as I write.

2nd day of poor accuracy.

Location: Kent, WA
Source: Weather.com and other online sites

Since friday, several sites have predicted sunshine for at least half of today.

I checked as early as 10 am this morning and the forecast called for partly cloudy in the morning and Sunny in the afternoon. Precipitation was listed as 20%. As of now, 6pm, there has been zero sunshine, it's been Cloudy all day and it rained.

There seems to be a pattern to the unpredictability of the predictions.

If they predict Sun or Partly Sunny, it never shows up.

The forecast has been 100% clouds for weeks now.

Last weekend they called for Partly Cloudy -- there was no sun.

Today same thing -- it's grey outside.

By weekend they're calling for a Sunny day.

We'll see...
