There are some issues that I think -- if only I gone to sleep for few years, or essentially just ignored the details entirely up until now, I would be better off.

This week GM's Chairman Robert Lutz announced the Chevy Volt would go into production. The Volt was a concept car in 2006, but now the order has been given to tool the factories to built it and have it available in 36 months.

The Volt is an electric-gas hybrid. It can run all electric, or on gas. The direct power to the motor comes from the battery...which can be charged by the gas generator or by plugging it in at home (takes a while, 6 hours, but there is a quick charge option for short trips).

There is also a fuel cell option giving it three different sources of power.

Gas mileage? The Volt can get 150 mpg.

Yes, One Hundred Fifty Miles Per Gallon.

That's 1/5th of the best average compact.

In an instant, GM, the pinnacle of American industry, cut gasoline use by 4/5 ths.
