Yesterday I parked my car in a parking lot outside the LINK (light rail) station. It was one of the few open spaces and it was very crammed.

I parked head in, and the fellow next to me was tail in.

I thought -- why don't we make that a rule? Since in many cases, especially with commuters, vehicles are generally single rider, why not press the passenger sides of the cars together, and then have a space between the driver sides. So instead of planning for two spaces between cars wide enough to get out, there would only be one...spaces would be marked head or tail in.

Of course, there would be areas for multiple occupancy vehicles, but I think this would cover a lot of the traffic and allow for more parking in a denser area.
