Playing chess is all well and good, but it took longer to build a good Scrabble bot.

That is why I present the Bailo AI challenge. Many multiplayer games offer player "bots". Sometimes when network servers are too slow, I play with all bot armies. The game Unreal Tournament III lets me set the number of robot combatants, their skill. I can even unbalance the play by setting an even number of bots, so my team will be one player short.

I'd say that I am able to win at the highest level of bot skill on a 10:1 ratio.

When I look at the challenges of a game like Unreal, a futuristic war scenario, where there are visual skills, strategy skills, group dynamics, multiplicity of weapons, temporal changes in real time, I think -- hey, this is what intelligence is really about!

My challenge for AI is this -- develop a standard bot program for Unreal that can consistently win in a situation of two armies with the same number of players - one all bots, the other all bots + one human.

If you wanted to leave posterity to find it's own way to your door,
you could call this the "Unreal bots plus one, AI battle challenge."
