When I put hyperlinks in text, I much prefer to put the link as its written, rather than use some other explantory text.


<a href=""></a>

rather than

<a href="">a link </a>

The reason is that hyperlink URLs (Uniform Resource Locators) are rich in information, and covering them up with other text removes the information content. Yes, you can "hover" over the link and see it, but I dislike doing that.

The URL shows the source. It may give some indication of the tree structure of the site ( /folder1/folder2/... ). It may reveal whether the site is static (.html) or dynamic (.jsp).

Most of all, it tells me where I'm going. I guess it's accepting the Web, as the Web, and using it's syntax to communicate...
