As an avid reader, access to text is important to me. However, I am amazed with the volume of books sold in this country, that the quality of the typical book, even one costing $40 or more, is quite poor.

For one thing, it's impossible to sit most books open and have them stay at the page without cracking the spine (meaning, the pages will most certainly fall out). I guess this is the cost of an all paperback society, but even hardcover books have that quality.

The other problem is font size. Many times the fonts are the smallest possible they can get away with because that uses the least amount of paper, but is that the best for most people.

We now have soft readers such as kindle, but they too seem to have far too little screen area and require carrying a plastic device around.

Frankly, my favorite way to read is to use my desktop Acer 22w screen. I set my Firefox browser with gargantuan size fonts, and lay on my couch to read Google News. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard, so I can "channel surf" among the news services and read at-a-distance. I find it quite relaxing to read type from a distance and much easier on the eyes.

What I would really like is an All Text tv station or scrolling web site that I could tune into and read the news, etc. Just text. Black on white. Times Roman and with a font visible from across the room.
