An article in yesterday's paper mentioned a website,
http://walkscore.com,
so you might have "read-this-elsewhere-first".

Still, it's pretty cool, and relatively unknown, so I think it
belongs here.

Intuitively enough, a "walkscore" measures how likely
you'll be able to take care of routine errands by walking
in your neighborhood. The walkscore for my house was
75 out of 100, corresponding to a "very walkable" rating.
For me, walking nearly a mile to get to the library (one
of my favorite stops in the neighborhood), is a bit of a
stretch, so I guess I have a quibble there. Still, very
interesting.

There was also a kind of creepy element, though I suppose
this is more about google maps than about walkscore.com.
I was able to "drive" down my street, seeing the view at
street level. I was able to zoom into my front porch and
see some things sitting there...
