.com versus .net

It always amazes me that sometimes the same domain name can point to radically different things based on whether the extension is .com or .net. And of course, sometimes not. Sometimes especially when the same company buys both the .com and .net flavors of its domain to discourage squatters. But, as budgets tightened, I've noticed that more and more companies settle for one or the other, leaving their doppelganger free to take on various personae.

Some tests I performed.

Both of these point to "corn links" -- not quite corn, but pointers to corn. c programmers appreciate the nuance.

Seems to be some type of primitive portal site and "bookstore"...

It describes itself as "Your destination for Extreme Albatros Karaoke and more".

Search site for Russian women (as in, you are searching for a Russian mail order bride).

Clearing house for online degrees...

And so can play the game ad infinitum.
