I start from the experience of interacting with web-based
applications. When you take the time to minutely analyze
why things went wrong when using a particular system or
interface, it soon becomes clear just how bad most of these
applications are; especially how muddled or contradictory
their user-interfaces are. Sometimes is is possible to trace
back poor design choices to programmers, other times to
top executives.

Another thing that happens when I take the time to suffer
through a poorly-designed interface is that I become greatly
annoyed. Writing about it is a healthy way to turn that steam
into work. Pun intended. I know that others have had the
same response that I have had, and I hope that they'll use
this forum to skewer "deserving" applications and transform
the heat to light.

If some seemingly soulless corporation is shamed or charmed
into considering the ideas raised here, I hope they find some
way to reward useful criticism. I understand that wrapping a
coffee mug in a t-shirt protects it from breaking during shipment.
The "second one" may well be dearer, though no less valuable.
